School Safety

My most important responsibility as a school board member is keeping our students and employees safe in our schools. As a teacher, I carried that with me daily as I took my students under my care. As a school board member, good policies for ensuring school safety have been my priority. We must take a holistic and layered approach to school safety. As a board member, I advocated for increased funding for mental health resources and school safety by helping secure the Next Generation Referendum.

Protecting Public Schools and Teachers

Public education is under attack in Florida. From discriminatory legislation targeting the LGBTQ+ community to regressive rules about sexual health education, school boards must be vigilant and do everything they can to protect academic freedom and our most vulnerable populations. I have been a strong voice on the Broward School Board for protecting our students, keeping academic freedom intact, and making sure our teachers are treated as professionals.

High-quality schools and facilities

Our students and employees deserve to learn and work in safe, clean, dignified facilities. Our schools on the east side are older and have been neglected for decades. During my time on the board, I've made it a priority to invest in repairing and replacing our old school facilities on the east side. Through my advocacy, we've secured nearly $90 million in new buildings for District 3 schools. That includes a brand new cafeteria for Stranahan High School - something the community had been fighting for for years, and a completely new school for Rickards Middle School after the tragic roof collapse that took place in early 2021.
